December 2020 Covid Safety Updates Regarding Visitors Accompanying Patients

December 1, 2020 by admin

Effective 12/03/20 AFA Obstetrics & Gynecology is going to need to restrict visitors from accompanying patients, this includes ultrasounds. If you are having an ultrasound you may FaceTime your partner so they can be included in this. With the increase in Covid-19 numbers we want to make sure our Patients and Staff are kept safe. Thank you for your understanding, we will keep you updated if things change.

Effective Friday, December 4, 2020 no visitors are allowed on L & D and postpartum at Emerson Hospital. All laboring moms may still have one support person AND professional doulas are still allowed in addition to that one support person.

On completion of the questionnaire you may be instructed to call the office if you have traveled. Please do so prior to your appointment. We will advise you on whether you should be seen in our office, a telehealth appointment or if rescheduling is recommended. If you have any questions about travel and your upcoming appointment please do not hesitate to call our office.

DR. Ingrid Balcomb to Retire on April 26, 2019

April 10, 2019 by admin

Our Founder – Dr Ingrid Balcomb, MD…

It is Geoffrey Chaucer who coined the phrase, “All good things must come to an end.”

After much “soul searching” and having had a rewarding career, I have decided it is time to end a part of my life journey to begin another. The time has arrived for me to officially announce my retirement from AFA OBSTERTICS & GYNECOLOGY and the practice of women’s healthcare. My final day will be April 26, 2019.

I was welcomed into the Emerson family some 25 years ago. I was blessed along the way with many opportunities which included, but not limited to, having served as a member of the active staff, member of the Board of Directors of Emerson Hospital, and past Department Chairperson of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  One of my proudest accomplishments was my involvement in “Project Score” which included the addition of the new Post-Partum Wing of Emerson Hospital providing much needed private rooms for our mothers and newborn infants.

Once I made the decision to move forward with the creation of AFA I was fully supported by Emerson administration.  As I look back at that journey, I have very few regrets because it enabled me to meet and work with some very dedicated, competent and knowledgeable colleagues some of whom became dear and valued personal friends and who will continue providing excellent services in women’s healthcare. I am absolutely most proud of AFA introducing “Midwifery” services to Emerson Hospital at a time when this service was becoming   an option that more and more expectant mothers were requesting.

But most importantly, I will miss my patients. During the past several weeks, I have been saying goodbye to some of these patients especially those who I have been seeing for many years.  Some of these “goodbyes” have been tearful but at the same time have made it very clear to me how meaningful those relationships have been, both to me and to the patient.

I now move forward with the next chapter of my “life” journey and I do so with the knowledge that AFA will continue to provide the care to patients that it was intended to do from its inception.

Thank you all.
